Downtown Glen Ellyn is proud to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Lucas, the beloved film that once transformed our streets into a movie set. This week‑long tribute honors our shared history, the film’s enduring charm, and the special role our community played in bringing it to life.

Join the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Lucas at the Glen Art Theatre, the very place where the film made its world premiere in 1986.
Explore a lobby filled with memorabilia and newspaper clippings generously loaned by the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, along with a special display of Glen Ellyn filming locations re‑created by today’s Glenbard West students.
Glenbard West High School journalism students have produced a documentary featuring community members and former students who appeared as extras, sharing their reflections on what it was like to have Hollywood right here in our hometown. The preview also includes archival news footage from the original 1986 Lucas premiere.
The full‑length documentary will debut on Glenbard West Day, Thursday, March 19, during the special screening of Lucas. For the remainder of the week, a five‑minute preview will be shown. Shortly after, the complete documentary will be available on The Glen Bard, Glenbard West’s student newspaper website, gwhsnews.org.
Lucas (1986)
Lucas Blye is a gifted, insect‑obsessed teen who doesn’t fit in at his suburban high school. When he befriends Maggie, a new girl who treats him with genuine warmth, he develops a deep crush. But Maggie begins to fall for Cappie, a kind, popular football player, leaving Lucas caught between hope and heartbreak.
His desire to prove himself leads him to join the football team despite his size, setting up a dramatic and dangerous turning point that forces the school to see him in a new light.
