Alliance Member Benefits

The mission of the Alliance of Downtown Glen Ellyn is to drive sales in downtown Glen Ellyn businesses, market the downtown to attract shoppers, diners, and future residents, and act as a liaison between the Village of Glen Ellyn and downtown business owners.

When joining the Alliance, a business may enjoy any of the benefits provided by the Alliance. The value a business reaps from their membership in the Alliance is directly connected to their engagement and participation in events, planning, marketing, and communication. It is when we combine our creative resources and energy that we can do more than any one business or individual could do on their own.

The following are resources that are available to participating businesses.

WEBSITE and DIRECTORY: The website for the Alliance is www.downtownglenellyn.com.   On the site, all downtown businesses are listed in the directory. However, Alliance member’s logos scroll above each area: Great Shops, Good Eats, and At Your Service.

BANNER AD: The site has banner ads that rotate every two minutes. At least 50 different banner ads run per year, distributed fairly, based on different business’ events. The uniqueness of these banner ads keeps the site fresh and helps to grow our unique visitors per month. (5,000-10,000+). Should a business want more exposure, they may provide us with a banner ad (250 x 950 pixels) that we will run for no extra cost, or they may pay $50 per banner ad for design services. Depending on the event/promotion and the number of events/promotions taking place, banner ads run for approximately two weeks.

SOCIAL MEDIA: The website tracks social media posts from as many downtown Glen Ellyn businesses that we can follow. Each post is tweeted throughout the day. In addition, the Executive Director regularly promotes individual businesses, the downtown, and events/sales/promotions on several different social media outlets. The Executive Director also works with print media sources to get additional exposure.

SHOPPER’S CLUB NEWSLETTER: On the top left of the Alliance website is a “button” called JOIN THE SHOPPER’S CLUB. This is an opt-in online newsletter that over 900 people have joined and that we continue to grow. It is distributed on the 1st of each month and follows a consistent format with a short blurb from the Executive Director, followed by a highlighted business of the month (which we also fairly assign), and then each Alliance member has the ability to enter his or her own event/promotion for the month via a secure private Members Only area accessed via the website. This newsletter serves as an excellent vehicle for promoting your business and special events and promotions that are upcoming.

MEMBERS ONLY AREA: The private Members Only area is accessible at the bottom of the website. Each Alliance member is given a User ID and password and then may gain access to templates needed to submit information for newsletters, register for participation in events and respond to request by the Executive Director for the collection of opinions, ideas, and data necessary to track the success of our events. Also in this private area are social media quick connects which list all the social media information for each business that submits. This streamlines your ability to connect, follow and interact with the many other Alliance businesses in downtown.

MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS: The entire Alliance membership is invited to a general membership meeting on the third Wednesday of each month located at the Civic Center at 535 Duane on the 3rd Floor, room 301. The meeting runs from 8 – 9 am and it is where many Alliance members join together to discuss business issues, plan events, share best practices and collaborate.

EVENTS: The Alliance plans and executes approximately 8 events per year. The goal of these events is to drive revenue in downtown businesses, increase the foot traffic in downtown, and to promote downtown Glen Ellyn as a destination shopping and dining location. Alliance members may participate in these events at no extra cost. The events can be reviewed on the website and currently include activities for couples, ladies shopping, families, and those planning weddings. In addition, events focusing on bringing customers to our salons, spas and barbershops as well as downtown restaurants are a highlight. Alliance members are great at brainstorming new ideas for events that include many different types of business. We also work together to promote individual businesses partnering together to have their own events. Each event has a committee tasked with planning and executing on the event and Alliance members are encouraged to participate in at least one committee per year.

ALLIANCE BOARD OF DIRECTORS: The Alliance Board of Directors consists of 6 – 8 voting members representing retailers, restaurants, spas/salons and downtown residents.  In addition, ex-officio members include the Executive Director of the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Glen Ellyn Economic Development Coordinator.  Alliance members in good standing can be elected to the Board of Directors and may serve for two consecutive two-year terms.
