Downtown Alliance Revamps Web Site
With Glen Ellyn implementing some type of plan to remake the entire downtown business district, the Downtown Glen Ellyn Alliance is creating a new Web site to complement the process.
“We want to create a quality portal to downtown Glen Ellyn,” said Carol White, representing the DGA at the Glen Ellyn Village Board meeting Sept. 28. “We are not only concerned with getting information out to our own residents, but also people from out of town who aren’t familiar with Glen Ellyn.”
DGA’s new location on the Web, effective Oct. 2, will be www.downtownglenellyn.com, the current home of Go Downtown. White indicated that GD recently agreed to let DGA take over the domain, because “they are pleased with everything we do.”
The new site, designed by 1990 Glenbard West graduate Mike St. Marie, is designed to provide a comprehensive look at the downtown scene at any given moment.
The top third of the home page will focus on ongoing events in the downtown area. The first event the Web site will highlight is the “Dine in Downtown — and Shop, Too” night Oct. 22.
The middle section will focus on the types of activity most prevalent in the district: dining, retail shopping and services. White stressed that a key focus of the retail section is the focus on popular brand names that so many shoppers look for but might not be aware are available at Glen Ellyn retailers.
The third, or bottom section, will be devoted to highlights from downtown and also serve as the sign-in area for DGA members.
As added incentive, DGA presents a Shoppers Club, where members can join to take advantage of restaurant discounts and advance notice on events.
White is determined that the new Web site reach as many potential customers as possible. “We want to give downtown Glen Ellyn the publicity it should get.”
